How to Configure Microsoft Outlook Express For

Electric Names/Hostforyou accounts POP Accounts


1. Start Microsoft Outlook Express.

2. From the 'Tools' menu select 'Accounts'

3. On the 'Internet Accounts' window click on the 'Add' button and select 'Mail...'

4. Type in the name you wish to be displayed to people receiving your e-mail's in the 'Display Name' field and click 'Next'

5. Ensure that 'I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use' is check and enter the e-mail address you have enabled in the 'E-mail Address' field. Once entered click 'Next'

6. Ensure that 'My incoming mail server is a POP3 server' is set and in the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, HTTP) server' field enter the POP3 Server address listed on your account details. For Example: 'pop3.mydomain.co.uk'

7. In the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server' field enter your ISP's SMTP server and click 'Next'. Your ISP is the company that provides you with Internet access. For Example: If your ISP is Freeserve then the SMTP server you need to enter here is 'smtp.freeserve.com' If you have problems sending mail, but have access to the internet, you will need to confirm with your ISP what their SMTP server is. Please note that AOL does not have an SMTP server and if you wish to use your new email address to send and receive you will need to do it through another ISP.

8. In the 'Account name' field enter the username you have chosen to use for this e-mail account. This is the name listed on your account details under 'Account Name'

9. Enter your password in the 'Password' field and click 'Next'. This is the password listed on your account details under 'Password'

10. You've now successfully set up your new POP3 account. Click 'Finish' If you have set up more than one account you can repeat the steps above for each account. There are no requirements for all the accounts to be on one computer, so if you have multiple computers with Internet access you can set up a POP3 account for each one.
